What is freedom of religion?

Freedom of religion refers to the fundamental right of individuals to either follow a particular religion or choose not to adhere to any religious beliefs at all. This principle is enshrined in numerous legal documents, including the First Amendment to the United States Constitution, which guarantees the right to freely exercise one’s religion and ensures that the government cannot establish a national religion.
